This is a great, easy craft. I like to use the boxes to wrap small jewelry in for gifts. You can give the jewelry and the box, no wrapping paper needed!
You will need:
-Mod Podge (you could also use white glue because Mod Podge is a thicker, stronger version of white glue)
-Small White Jewelry Box (if your box is another light color, you can probably paint the box with white acrylic paint)
-Fancy Paper Napkin in Pretty Pattern
For my box, I’m using this really pretty beach napkin. You need a specific kind of napkin for this project. A lot of more plain napkins are just one layer. The slightly more expensive napkins are made of two layers; A colored top layer and a white layer. You will need the kind of napkin with layers.
For this box, you will need to separate the two layers.
Now, take the bottom white layer of the napkin, and cut it, and sort of lay it over the box.
You can then take some Mod Podge and a paintbrush, and brush it over the box. As a side note, my work surface is covered in newspaper with wax paper on top so the Mod Podge won’t stick to it. When you have stuck the white napkin to your box, you can start putting your colored napkin on the top.
I had a specific design idea for this box, so I wanted to cut out particular shapes from the napkin.
Just be careful that you don’t stick -too- many layers of napkin on the box, or else it may not close correctly. I did the same for the lid, even though I ended up with more Mod Podge on the lid. It dries clear, so I didn’t worry too much, however.
This is the finished product. I was very annoyed that you can see the original Macy’s logo though the napkin. I did another box and I painted over the logo with white paint and that seemed to work, so be sure to do this first!
Happy decoupaging!
